Drugged Driving
It has been discovered that the numbers of teens and young people who are driving whilst high on marijuana is increasing.
Columbia University researchers, having carried out a study on the subject, have unearthed the fact that fatal accidents involving drugged drivers have actually tripled over the last decade.
In addition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration undertook a recent survey and asked High School seniors if they had ever driven whilst high on marijuana. A staggering one in eight admitted that yes, they had driven after smoking the drug.
What is more, young drivers are also at risk with 25% of the fatal drugged driver accidents, involving drivers under the age of 25.
Unfortunately, it does not appear that there is an easy solution to the problem on the horizon, as more and more states appear to be looking to legalize the drug. Parents and grandparents are expressing their concern at the research findings from both institutions saying that supervision of these young high drivers is becoming increasingly difficult.
