Vincent Johnson, a former South Florence standout, was killed in a motorcycle accident Friday night.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Johnson was driving a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle on North Wendover Road towards the intersection of Marvin Road and collided with a 2004 Cadillac driven by Ronald Eugene Hoey. Hoey stopped to make a left turn onto Marvin Road at the same time as Johnson arrived at the intersection. Both vehicles collided and Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. Hoey was uninjured. Police are still investigating the accident.
Johnson played at Greenville Tech after high school and was a three-year starter for the Bruins football team. His father, Vincent senior is a long time coach in the Florence recreation leagues.
His friends and former teammates were shocked and upset and posted messages of condolence on social media sites.
No funeral details have yet been announced.
