On Friday evening, September 25, an unborn child died in a car accident.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol the accident happened at 6.50 p.m. when 23 year old Ashley Michelle Bridges from Easley was driving south on Sulphur Springs Road near Watkins Road. She had been drinking and she hit a Honda Accord in the rear which pushed it to the left and across the center line when it was then hit by an SUV and a Jeep. The Honda was being driven by Robert Whitmere and also had a passenger, his girlfriend Mindy McCall who was 23 weeks pregnant and both were taken to hospital with severe injuries where the unborn child died. There is no more information as to the extent of their injuries.
Bridges has now been charged with three counts of felony DUI with two involving great bodily injury and one a fatality. She was released from the Greenville County Detention Center on a $65,000 bond.
