On Friday, August 7, a teen left hospital following a fatal car accident.
The accident happened on July 10, when according to State Highway Patrol officials and following the investigation, a 2009 Nissan driven by Brandon Lamar Lee was traveling west on U.S. Highway 158 between Vaughan and Littleton in Warren County. Lee’s vehicle then went over the center line and hit a 1995 Chevy truck being driven eastbound by Zachary Hunter Rodwell.
After the impact, Lee’s vehicle stopped facing east in the westbound lane of the highway, and Zachary’s truck overturned and burst into flames, coming to rest upside down off the side of the eastbound lane.
Both Lee and Rodwell died from the impact and 13 year old Ben Rodwell, brother of Zachary, was taken to hospital with facial damage and a fractured pelvis along with other broken bones. He is now home from hospital and faces reconstructive surgery in the future.
Ben recalls that he was rescued by a passerby, Kenny Sharpe Jr. who pulled him from the burning vehicle and took him to hospital at Halifax Regional without waiting for the emergency services. From there Ben was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
