On Wednesday morning, three people were hospitalized following a two car accident in Pitt County.
According to troopers, the accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. on Highway 33 on the overpass leading to Grimesland. The overpass was closed for over an hour after the incident.
The accident happened when 59 year old Judy McMillen was driving eastbound in a Jeep and at the same time 55 year old Betsy Haddock was driving in the opposite direction in a Ford Ranger. For some reason McMillen crossed the center line in the Jeep and hit Haddock.
Haddock was trapped in the truck and had to be extricated and was then airlifted to the hospital. McMillen and her five year old male passenger were taken to the hospital by ambulance where McMillen is said to be suffering from significant injuries, and the boy is expected to recover.
The accident is still under investigation but McMillen has been charged with driving left of center.
