On Monday, April 6, one person died following a head on collision in Transylvania County.
According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol the accident happened just after 5 p.m. on U.S. 276. They confirmed that it was a head on collision between a local resident, driving a red Nissan, who crossed the center line and hit a cable truck head on.
The driver of the Nissan was airlifted to Mission Hospital with serious injuries, but the passenger in the vehicle was killed. The cable truck ended up in the ditch but the driver did not receive any injuries.
Part of the highway was closed for three hours while the investigation was carried out.
Troopers say wet roads did not play a factor in this crash and so far there have been no charges but there may be later.
