On Friday, July 24, a man crashed a motorcycle then ran from police.
According to the police, the incident happened at around noon in Easley town center. A motorcyclist, later identified as 34 year old Derek Bennett Williams of Williamston, was driving through the town and sped away from police at speed. He lost control and hit two vehicles and the bike flipped. He then got up from the road, showed a silver hand gun and, although officers gave chase, they lost him when he climbed a fence and ran into the woods behind Academy Sports.
Many departments including K 9 units, a helicopter and the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office searched for around two hours but to no avail.
A warrant has now been issued for his arrest, charged with leaving the scene of an accident, pointing and presenting a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting arrest and reckless driving. As the motorcycle was discovered to have been stolen out of Greenville County he was also charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.
