On Friday October 14, there was a three-vehicle wreck which sent at least two people to the hospital.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol and Nash County Sheriff’s Office the accident happened shortly before 5 p.m. on N.C. 97. The cause of the accident was that a 2003 Infiniti being driven in the eastbound lane of the road, by 38 year old Altorrie Vick, of Rocky Mount rear ended a 2012 Toyota Camry driven by 58 year old Priscilla Newsome, also of Rocky Mount who was stopped at the intersection of N.C. 97 and Michael Road, waiting to turn onto Michael Road.Vick did not apply his brakes in time to stop, leading his car to hit Newsome’s Camry.
Newsome’s car was then pushed into a 2015 Toyota Sienna family van driven by 35 year old Ronald Mills, of Rocky Mount who was also stopped at the intersection of Leigh Road, waiting to turn right onto N.C. 97.
Vick was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville after the accident where he was listed in good condition but faces a charge of failure to reduce speed and driving without a seat belt.
Newsome was transported to Nash UNC Health Care and treated and released. He is not facing charges.
