On Sunday, August 30, two young children were killed when a vehicle crashed into a bank.
According to the Greenville Police Department, the accident happened shortly before 9.15 a.m. when there was a two vehicle collision between a green pickup truck which struck a 2001 Ford Expedition SUV and sent it crashing into the Arthur State Bank on Pleasantburg Drive. The SUV then caught on fire.
The children who died were three year old Micah A. Young and five year old Tyrin Savahya Young Jr.and according to the Greenville Coroner they both died from smoke inhalation.
The mother of the children, who was driving the SUV and another passenger, both survived the accident and the truck driver was taken to hospital although his injuries are unknown.
Pleasantburg Drive was closed between Pine Knoll Drive and Wade Hampton Boulevard for more than six hours as crews worked at the scene but it is thought that the investigation will take a few weeks. It is likely the bank will be demolished due to the amount of damage incurred.
