On Wednesday night, April 7, a man was killed in a single vehicle crash in downtown Greenville.
According to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, the accident happened shortly before 8.20 p.m. on South Church Street at Falls Park Drive under Camperdown Way. Carey Wayne Cobb, 64, who lived at 230 David Avenue, Wellford, was driving his Chevy Tahoe SUV when, for reasons unknown, he veered off the roadway, drove up a hill and struck the Cleveland Street bridge.
Cobb was declared dead at the scene and his female passenger was taken to hospital with unknown injuries. Her current condition is not known.
Later on the same night a traffic reconstruction team arrived and only one lane of traffic was open on South Church Street, with all other traffic being rerouted by officers on scene.
